Now this is very cool. The New York Times has implemented a notation system across their entire site that lets you link to specific paragraphs, highlight paragraphs and even individual sentences—all in a surprisingly intuitive way. Bravo to the developers at the Times!
These days it’s rare that I find new design techniques online. That may mean I have a pretty good grasp on my craft or, more likely, that there is a proliferation of noise on the interwebs these days that keeps the wheat from separating from the chaff. But today that changed with the discovery of Craft & Method, a website of the stories behind the designs. Today’s discovery was on color schemes. I was skeptical at first, but after watching the video, I’m anxious to try this technique out.

Amazon unveils their new $139 Kindle. Among the slate of new improvements in form and functionality, I’m excited to see that Amazon has continued to improve the typography: “Waveform tuning, combined with new hand-built, custom fonts and font-hinting, make words and letters more crisp, clear, and natural-looking.” The new Kindle also boasts three font choices: “our standard Caecilia font, a condensed version of Caecilia, and a sans serif option” The other notable feature in the new Kindle is the inclusion of a Webkit browser. Details are slim on this and no screenshots are posted.
Design agency Forty has published a great little guide [PDF] to Search Engine Optimization (SEO)—a fancy term for being popular with Google.
